Most of my work up to this point has been mainly screen based or print based, very few outcomes have been 3D and I wanted to give it a go. For the politeness brief in my last year of University, I wanted to make an object that incorporated politeness. The outcome were these 3 tea tops that represented core values of politeness, consideration(3 spouts to serve 3 others before our self), respect (a small respectful bow)and kindness (a little bit of kindness goes a long way). I glazed these in a double glaze of Shino and satin white which gave it its speckle quite appearance, inspired by ceramists Bernard Leach based in St. Ives.

However, I felt that they didn’t have any real-world context. So, I created a mock up ceramics exhibition hosted at the V&A and created packaging for replica limited edition tea pots and poster branding for the ‘Polite Pottery’ side of the exhibition. The packaging also used the typeface I had made for the same project, ‘Letters of apology’, which helped bridge the two and made it more polite.

It was a great opportunity to do something outside of my comfort zone and get what I created to relate to a real world context using ceramics/ poster / packaging design.
